Day 12 - San Juan de Ortega to Burgos

Restaurant my foot, it was the worst meal I have ever had in Spain and it was full of Germans. The guy that ran it was disgustingly rude and the food was rubbish. Never mind.

Our walk to Burgos is along the side of the main road, a long and boring track, but brightened up by our 2 American colleagues Mark & Deanna who we met in the hotel. A really nice couple who are travelling the world for 5 years and are 2½ years into their tour.

We were warned about the tramps that sleep rough in Burgos!
There are literally dozens of medieval buildings in Burgos, I could bore you stiff with the facts and photos, so I won't. Just one more.
This is the cathedral de Santa Maria (13th century), among the most beautiful of Spain's many Cathedrals and one of the largest.

Essentially Gothic but added to and altered over the years.

Burgos is sometimes referred to as the Gothic capital of Spain, it was also the seat of Franco's government until 1938.

It is named after its heavy defensive towers “ burgos” and was home of the war lord El Cid born here in 1040.

We have now done 287km and tomorrow we are off to Hornillos, just 21km up the road across farmland tracks.

Going out now to get a proper meal and meet our American friends
